Product authenticity and brand

Are the products and fabrics exactly the same as shown on the website?

Yes, the products and fabrics are absolutely the same as shown on the website. It is our endeavor to ensure that we display the exact product on our website; however, some variation in color or appearance may occur due to lighting and individual device settings.

How can I verify that my saree is genuinely SilkMark certified?

Every Silk Mark certified saree carries a physical tag — with a unique serial number and a security hologram. You can verify the number on the official Silk Mark Organisation of India website using the "Verify Silk Mark" tool. Many tags also include a QR code for instant smartphone verification. If a serial number is not found in the SMOI database, or if the tag lacks a hologram, do not accept it as genuine. Sacred Weaves is a registered Silk Mark authorised seller — our certification details are available on request, and every silk saree we sell carries a verifiable, database-registered SilkMark.

Are Sacred Weaves Banarasi sarees pure silk and handloom?

The Banarasi silk sarees at Sacred Weaves are made from pure natural silk and are completely handwoven, and the Banarasi sarees offered are entirely handloom products carrying the trust of a 100-year-old legacy.

What is HSN code 5007 and what does it confirms about a Banarasi saree?

HSN code 5007 is the Harmonised System of Nomenclature code assigned by the Government of India to woven fabrics of silk or silk waste. When this code appears on a purchase invoice, it legally confirms the fabric is classified as pure silk under Indian customs and tax law. It is the same code used by customs authorities globally to identify and classify pure silk textiles at import. Sacred Weave's includes HSN code 5007 on every bill as documentary proof of silk content — one of the most reliable, government-verified authenticity signals a buyer can receive and a critical document for international customs declarations.

How can I learn to identify a pure silk Banarasi saree?

Sacred Weaves has collated important and must-know facts on how to identify a pure silk Banarasi saree, which you can read by clicking on the highlighted “identify a Pure Silk Banarasi Saree” link provided.

Saree types, fabrics, designs and weaving

What types of Banarasi sarees and fabrics do you offer?

The types of Banarasi sarees at Sacred Weaves depend on fabrics such as Khaddi Georgette, Katan silk, Tussar silk, Organza silk, Dupion silk, Satin silk, Tissue silk and more. You can find all of these with different designs and a wide variety of colours.

What are the main weaving techniques used in your Banarasi sarees?

Two of the most famous weaving techniques used to make Banarasi sarees are Kadhawa and Cutwork, and there are a few more techniques that have evolved over time.

What is Kadhawa weaving?

Kadhawa is a laborious, sophisticated and intricate weaving technique in which each motif is woven separately, and as a result, a Kadhawa saree looks similar from both sides because the motifs are individually woven into the fabric.

How much effort goes into making a Kadhawa Banarasi saree?

A Kadhawa Banarasi saree is the result of work by an expert artisan who spends more than 100 days to create a single masterpiece using this detailed weaving technique.

What is Cutwork weaving?

Cutwork is a famous weaving technique that takes less time than Kadhawa. In Cutwork, all the motifs are woven together and after the saree is completed, the extra silk threads from the back side of the saree are cut down.

What designs of Banarasi silk sarees do you offer?

Sacred Weaves offers many famous designs for Banarasi silk sarees including Konia, Banarasi Bandhej, Brocade, Uppada, Rangkat, Paithani, Tanchoi, Shikargah and printed designs. You can find all of them on our website.

Why are Banarasi sarees so famous?

Banarasi sarees are famous because of their handloom craftsmanship, intricate zari work made of either gold or silver and pure natural silk. Handloom sarees have been the prime choice of royal families for centuries and Banaras is a major hub for producing these lustrous sarees with a royal appearance.

Video shopping, store presence and contact

Do you have a physical store?

Sacred Weaves operates completely online and does not have any physical store. However, for customers who wish to see the product before buying, there is an option for video shopping, and the corporate office is located in Mahmoorganj, Varanasi, India.

What is video shopping and how does it work at Sacred Weaves?

Sacred Weaves offers Live video shopping sessions where you can view any saree in real time before purchasing — the equivalent of visiting a weaver's workshop in Varanasi, from anywhere in the world. During a session, our team shows you the front and reverse of the saree, demonstrates the zari texture under light, drapes the fabric, shows the Silk Mark tag, and answers your questions live.

Sessions are conducted via WhatsApp video call. To book, contact us via WhatsApp at +91 88878 98984 or through the Book A Video Shopping Form. There is no obligation to purchase after a session — we simply want you to see exactly what you are buying.

Is it safe to buy a Banarasi saree online without seeing it in person?

Yes — if you take the right precautions. Look for brands who are Silk Mark certified (verifiable on silkmarkindia.com), show clear photographs of both the front and the reverse of the saree, mention the specific weaving technique and fabric detail in the product description, and offer a live video consultation before purchase.

Sacred Weaves offers video shopping sessions via WhatsApp so you can view the saree texture, zari quality, drape, and Silk Mark tag — in real time before a purchase. This removes the primary risk of online saree shopping and replicates the experience of buying directly from a trusted weaver in Varanasi, regardless of where in the world you are placing your order.

Saree size, weight and components

What is the standard length and width of your sarees?

The length of a Sacred Weaves saree is 5.5 meters (excluding the blouse piece) and the width is 44-46 inches, though measurements may vary for few sarees because of the nature of the fabrics.

Do your sarees come with a blouse piece?

Yes, all the sarees provided by Sacred Weaves includes a blouse piece.

What does the weight of a Banarasi silk saree depends on?

The weight of a Banarasi silk saree totally depends on the zari work, with heavier zari typically resulting in a heavier saree.

Care, cleaning, durability and preservation

Can I wash a Banarasi saree at home or does it need dry cleaning?

Pure silk Banarasi sarees should be dry cleaned whenever possible Especially those with heavy Zari work, as metallic thread can be damaged by water, detergent, and mechanical movement.

If iron is needed, use the lowest heat setting with a soft cotton cloth placed between the iron and the saree surface. For zari-heavy sarees, always iron only on the reverse side, never directly on the zari threads.

How should I preserve my Banarasi silk sarees?

Since all Banarasi silk sarees are handwoven and made of pure silk, they need good care; Sacred Weaves recommends watching their preservation video on YouTube (link here) to learn how to preserve your Banarasi silk sarees in the right way.

How durable is silk compared to cotton?

Silk is a natural, strong fiber which is more durable. Cotton is also a strong fiber but its durability is largely affected by moisture.
