Organza Silk Banarasi Sarees — Sheer, Lightweight Handloom Silk with Woven Zari Work

Organza Banarasi sarees (also called Kora Organza) are pure handloom silk sarees woven in Varanasi from a fine, sheer, high-twist silk yarn that gives the fabric its characteristic crisp transparency and airy drape — the lightest fabric in the Banarasi range at approximately 350–450g. Despite the delicate appearance, organza is a strong, structured fabric that holds woven zari motifs beautifully. This collection features woven designs — Boota (scattered motifs), Jaal (all-over zari trellis), and Checks — not prints. Every saree is Silk Mark certified, billed under HSN Code 5007, and comes with a certificate of authenticity. Prices range from roughly ₹12,500 to ₹49,000. What Makes Organza a Distinct Banarasi Weave

Organza is defined by its yarn and weave: a fine, tightly twisted silk thread woven into a plain, open structure that produces a sheer, crisp, almost transparent fabric with natural body — it holds its shape rather than clinging. In Banarasi Organza, gold or silver zari motifs are woven directly into this sheer ground (not printed on top), so the design is visible and consistent on both faces of the fabric. This collection includes three woven design styles. Boota organza features individual zari motifs scattered across the sheer ground. Jaal organza carries an all-over trellis of connected zari motifs for a richer look. Checks organza uses fine woven zari lines forming a grid pattern across the fabric.

Weight, Drape & Best Occasions

At roughly 450–950g, organza is the lightest pure silk in the Banarasi range — lighter than Crepe, Katan, or Satin — with a crisp, structured drape that stands slightly away from the body rather than falling flat. This makes it well suited to daytime and warm-weather functions: summer weddings, mehendi and haldi ceremonies, brunches, and cocktail evenings, where the sheer fabric and woven zari catch the light. Because organza holds its shape, it drapes with volume and structure, making it a popular choice for those who want a lightweight saree that still reads as festive and dressy. It is one of the most comfortable Banarasi fabrics for long-duration wear in heat.

Authenticity You Can Verify

Every Organza Silk saree in this collection is Silk Mark certified (verifiable at silkmarkindia.com), billed under HSN Code 5007 confirming pure silk fabric for customs and tax purposes, sourced directly from handloom weavers in and around Varanasi — and comes with a certificate of authenticity. The zari motifs are woven into the fabric on a handloom, not printed or applied — visible and consistent on both sides of the saree.

Care & Storage

Organza silk should always be dry cleaned — the sheer, high-twist weave and woven zari can be distorted or damaged by water and machine washing. Store the saree wrapped in muslin or soft cotton cloth (never plastic), and because organza is prone to crease and snag more easily than heavier silks, store it rolled rather than tightly folded where possible, and refold along different lines periodically. If ironing, use the lowest heat setting with a cotton cloth between the iron and the fabric, and iron only on the reverse over any zari.
